Expiry of the Revenue (Reduction of Business Registration Fees) Order 2013

The Revenue (Reduction of Business Registration Fees) Order 2013 (“2013 Order”) will expire on 1 April 2014.  For any business or branch registration certificates which commence on or after that date1, the prescribed business registration fee or the prescribed branch registration fee, as the case may be, will be payable together with the levy.  Please refer to the business registration fee & levy table for details of the total amount payable under a certificate.

The Loans (Amendment) Bill 2014, to accommodate the issuance of Islamic bonds (sukuk) under the Government Bond Programme, was gazetted today and will be tabled at the Legislative Council on January 22.

 

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan says the Government amended its tax laws in July 2013 to enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness through developing a sukuk market, by providing a taxation framework for the bonds comparable to that for conventional bonds.

To prepare for the commencement of the new Companies Ordinance, Chapter 622 of the Laws of Hong Kong, on 3 March 2014, the Companies Registry has issued four External Circulars and four Guidelines today. The Guidelines shall be effective upon the commencement of the new Ordinance on 3 March 2014.

Renminbi deposits in Hong Kong climbed 5.8% to RMB827 billion in November, while overall foreign-currency deposits grew 1.3%, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority said today.

 

Total deposits with authorised institutions increased 1% in November, while Hong Kong-dollar deposits rose 0.8%. The total remittance of renminbi for cross-border trade settlement was RMB439.4 billion, compared with RMB315.3 billion in October.

An agreement between Hong Kong and Qatar to avoid double taxation and prevent fiscal evasion regarding income taxes has come into force.

 

The pact was signed in May and came into force on December 5 after both sides completed ratification procedures. It will be in effect in Hong Kong for any year of assessment beginning on or after April 1, 2014.

    An agreement between Hong Kong and Canada for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income has entered into force, a Government spokesman said today (October 30).

    The agreement was signed in November last year. It came into force on October 29, 2013 after completion of ratification procedures on both sides. It will be in effect in Hong Kong for any year of assessment beginning on or after April 1, 2014.
