On 27 May, the Legislative Council passed the “Improving Electoral System (Consolidated Amendments) Bill 2021.” The changes will help to ensure that the planned elections in the next 10 months will be conducted in an orderly manner.
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce welcomes this development, as we believe the passage of the bill will ensure a stable and orderly business environment, while at the same time safeguarding our autonomy under the “One Country, Two Systems.”
The Government took on board legislators’ suggestions, and finally proposed 369 amendments, to refine the bill, which will enable the Legislative Council to function properly and fulfil its obligation to serve Hong Kong.
